AMOXICILLIN SUSPENSION - ORAL
(uh-mox-eh-SILL-in)
COMMON BRNAD NAME(S): Amoxil, Trimox, Wymox
USES: Amoxicillin treats a wide variety of bacterial infections.
HOW TO USE: Shake well befroe each dose. Take this medication as diercted by your doctor, usually every 8 or 12 hours. This drug may be taken with or without food. Antibiotics work best when the amount of meidcine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals. Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stoppnig the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.
Inform your docotr if your condition does not improve in a few days.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting during the first few days as your body adjutss to the medication.
If these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor promptly. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic recation include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
This medicine may cause temoprary staining of the teeth.
Proper brsuhing will usually remove this staining and may prevent it from occurring. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your docotr your medical history, especially of: blood disorders, kidney problems, allergies (especially to penicillin or other antibiotics). Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.G., oral or vagianl yeast infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vagianl discharge or other new symptoms. Bfeore using this medication, tell your doctor if you are pregnant. This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescrpition and nonprescription medications you may take, especially of: probenecid, disulfiram, tetracyclines. This drug may itnerfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using otehr methods of birth control with your doctor. This antbiiotic may cause false positive results in diabetic urine testing using Clinitest. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immeidately. Symptoms of overdose may icnlude nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
NOTES: This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another ifnection.
A different medication may be necessary in thsoe cases. Do not shrae this medication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you rememebr. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not doulbe the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Refrigeration may improve the taste of this medicine but may not be requried. Depneding on the brand, when stored at room temperature, this medicine may expire earlier than if it was refrigerated. Check the bottle or ask your pharmacist to see if (and for how long) you can store this medicine at room temperature. Discard any unused portion after 14 days for the drug loses poetncy after that time.
